Overview
The G.SKILL Ripjaws V is a 16GB DDR4 kit of 2 x 8GB modules, rated for 3,200 MT/s at 16-18-18-38 timings and 1.35V. Ripjaws V has a black aluminium heat spreader with G.SKILL's angular fin design and no lighting. It was the second-best-selling DDR4 kit on Amazon US in 2026, as DDR4 upgrades cost far less than moving to DDR5.
It is DDR4, so it fits DDR4 desktop boards only: AMD AM4 (Ryzen 1000 to 5000) and Intel boards from 6th to 14th Gen that use DDR4. Its Intel XMP 2.0 profile works on both Intel and AMD DDR4 boards. Without the profile it runs at the default 2,133 MT/s at 1.20V; one BIOS setting brings it to 3,200 MT/s.
16GB covers most games and everyday work. On an AM4 or DDR4 Intel PC, a 2x8GB kit is the cheapest way to move from 8GB or from a single module to dual channel, and in late 2026 it cost less than half as much as a 16GB DDR5 kit.

Will this kit work with my motherboard?
It fits DDR4 desktop boards: AMD AM4 (Ryzen 1000 to 5000) and Intel boards that use DDR4, including many 12th to 14th Gen (LGA1700) boards. It does not fit DDR5 boards, including AM5 and Intel Core Ultra (LGA1851); the notch in the module is in a different place.
Should I buy DDR4 or move to DDR5?
If your board takes DDR4, this kit is the cheap upgrade: in late 2026 it cost about half as much as 32GB of DDR5, and DDR5 needs a new board and often a new CPU. Move to DDR5 when you change platform.
How do I get the rated 3,200 MT/s?
Enable the XMP profile in the BIOS (on AMD boards it may be called DOCP or A-XMP). Without it the kit runs at the default 2,133 MT/s at 1.20V.
Will it fit under my CPU cooler?
The modules are 42 mm tall, which suits liquid coolers and most tower coolers, but some large dual-tower air coolers overhang the memory slots; check the cooler's RAM clearance first.
Is 16GB enough?
16GB covers most games and everyday work. On an AM4 or DDR4 Intel PC, a 2x8GB kit is the cheapest way to move from 8GB or from a single module to dual channel, and in late 2026 it cost less than half as much as a 16GB DDR5 kit.
