Overview

The G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB is a 96GB DDR5 kit of 2 x 48GB modules, rated for 5,600 MT/s at 40-40-40-89 timings and 1.25V through its AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 profiles. It runs 5600 MT/s at a low 1.25V, and its default JEDEC speed is also 5600, so it reaches its rated speed even on boards where you leave the profile off.

It carries both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 profiles, so it suits Ryzen 7000 and 9000 (AM5) and Intel Core Ultra 200S (LGA1851) boards alike. Without the profile it runs at the default 5600 MT/s at 1.10V; one BIOS setting brings it to 5,600 MT/s.

96GB suits heavy creative work, virtual machines and large datasets. For local AI on the CPU or alongside a GPU, 96GB holds a 70B model at 4-bit (about 40GB) with a long context and room for the operating system and apps.

Questions and answers

Still unsure? Visit the help center or message us.

Will this kit work with my motherboard?

It fits DDR5 desktop boards and has profiles for both platforms: EXPO for AMD AM5 and XMP 3.0 for Intel LGA1851 and LGA1700. It does not fit DDR4 boards.

How do I get the rated 5,600 MT/s?

Enable the EXPO or XMP profile in the BIOS. Without it the kit runs at the default 5600 MT/s. Rated speeds depend on the CPU's memory controller and the board, so a small number of systems need a BIOS update or a slightly lower speed.

Does it have RGB lighting?

Yes. The light bar can be controlled from the RGB software of major motherboard makers (ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock) or from the memory maker's own software.

Is 96GB enough for local AI?

For local AI on the CPU or alongside a GPU, 96GB holds a 70B model at 4-bit (about 40GB) with a long context and room for the operating system and apps.

Can I add another kit later?

Memory makers sell kits as matched sets and advise against mixing kits, even identical ones, because the modules are tested together. Buy the total capacity you want as one kit.
