Overview
The G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB is a 128GB DDR5 kit of 2 x 64GB modules, rated for 6,000 MT/s at 34-44-44-96 timings and 1.35V through its AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 profiles. It reaches 128GB with just two 64GB modules, so the board stays in its faster two-DIMM configuration and two slots remain free.
It carries both AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0 profiles, so it suits Ryzen 7000 and 9000 (AM5) and Intel Core Ultra 200S (LGA1851) boards alike. Without the profile it runs at the default 5600 MT/s at 1.10V; one BIOS setting brings it to 6,000 MT/s. 64GB modules need a motherboard BIOS dated 2025 or later with 64GB module support, so update the BIOS before installing.
128GB suits workstation loads: big video timelines, simulation, many virtual machines. For local AI, 128GB holds a 70B model at 4-bit with plenty of room, or a mixture-of-experts model of around 120B parameters at 4-bit, which is where CPU inference gets interesting.

Questions and answers

Will this kit work with my motherboard?
It fits DDR5 desktop boards and has profiles for both platforms: EXPO for AMD AM5 and XMP 3.0 for Intel LGA1851 and LGA1700. It does not fit DDR4 boards. 64GB modules also need a BIOS dated 2025 or newer.
How do I get the rated 6,000 MT/s?
Enable the EXPO or XMP profile in the BIOS. Without it the kit runs at the default 5600 MT/s. Rated speeds depend on the CPU's memory controller and the board, so a small number of systems need a BIOS update or a slightly lower speed.
Why does it need a 2025 BIOS?
64GB DDR5 modules arrived in 2025, and motherboards need a BIOS with support for them. Update to the latest BIOS before installing; older firmware may not boot or may see only part of the memory.
Is 128GB enough for local AI?
For local AI, 128GB holds a 70B model at 4-bit with plenty of room, or a mixture-of-experts model of around 120B parameters at 4-bit, which is where CPU inference gets interesting.
Can I add another kit later?
Memory makers sell kits as matched sets and advise against mixing kits, even identical ones, because the modules are tested together. Buy the total capacity you want as one kit.
