The Radeon RX 9070 is the cut-down sibling of the RX 9070 XT: RDNA 4 with 56 compute units, 3,584 stream processors and the same 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, for 640 GB/s. It is a 1440p card, and reviews measured it about 4% faster than the RTX 5070 in rasterized games but about 16% slower with ray tracing at 1440p.
AMD rates it at 220W total board power with a 650W power supply, well below the XT's 304W. The pictured ASUS Prime RX 9070 OC is a triple-fan card 312 x 130 x 50 mm and 2.5 slots thick, with two 8-pin connectors and a boost clock of up to 2,590 MHz (2,610 MHz in OC mode) against AMD's 2,520 MHz reference.
Its 16GB is the main advantage over 12GB cards at this price: it holds 8B to 14B language models at 4-bit to 8-bit, and llama.cpp runs through Vulkan, or through ROCm on supported Linux releases. Tools that require CUDA will not run.
