Overview
The G.SKILL G5 Neo is a 128GB DDR5 registered ECC kit of 4 x 32GB modules, rated for 6,000 MT/s at 30-36-36-96 timings and 1.40V through its AMD EXPO profile. G5 Neo is G.SKILL's overclocking workstation memory for AMD Threadripper: registered DDR5 with ECC, sold as a matched quad-channel kit.
It is built for AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and 9000 on TRX50 and WRX90 boards. These are registered DIMMs with side-band ECC on top of DDR5's on-die ECC, so they correct memory errors across the whole module, which matters for long renders, simulations and AI runs. They will not work in desktop AM5 or LGA1851 boards, which take unbuffered DIMMs. At default settings the modules run at 4800 MT/s and 1.10V; enabling the AMD EXPO profile in the BIOS sets the rated 6,000 MT/s.
For AI workstations, 128GB of ECC memory holds a 70B model at 4-bit in system memory with room to spare, alongside the GPUs that do the heavy lifting. It is sold as a matched set of four modules.

Will this RDIMM kit work in a gaming motherboard?
No. Registered ECC DIMMs need a workstation platform: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 and 9000 on TRX50 and WRX90 boards. Desktop AM5 and LGA1851 boards take unbuffered DIMMs only.
How do I get the rated 6,000 MT/s?
Enable the AMD EXPO profile in the BIOS. Without it the kit runs at the default 4800 MT/s. Rated speeds depend on the CPU's memory controller and the board, so a small number of systems need a BIOS update or a slightly lower speed.
What does registered ECC add?
A register chip buffers the signals so workstation boards can run more and larger modules, and side-band ECC detects and corrects memory errors on top of the on-die ECC every DDR5 chip has. It costs a little latency and is the standard for workstations that run for days.
Is 128GB enough for local AI?
Yes for most work. 128GB across four channels holds a 70B model at 4-bit with room to spare, alongside the GPUs that do the heavy lifting.
Can I add another kit later?
Memory makers sell kits as matched sets and advise against mixing kits, even identical ones, because the modules are tested together. Buy the total capacity you want as one kit.
