Overview

The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 OC is a triple-fan partner card built on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090: Blackwell with 21,760 CUDA cores and 32GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus, for up to 1,792 GB/s. ASUS runs it at 2,550 MHz boost out of the box and 2,580 MHz in OC mode, against NVIDIA's 2,410 MHz reference figure. It is aimed at 4K gaming at high refresh rates with ray tracing, and at heavy rendering and local AI work.

It measures 348 x 146 x 72 mm and is 3.6 slots thick, with one 16-pin power connector and a 1,000W power supply recommendation from ASUS. NVIDIA's reference total graphics power for the RTX 5090 is 575W; ASUS does not publish a separate figure for this model. Cooling uses three Axial-tech fans, a vapor chamber with 12 heatpipes and a phase-change GPU thermal pad, and the card has dual BIOS (Performance and Quiet), military-grade TUF components and a diecast shroud with an aluminum backplate. Outputs are two HDMI 2.1b and three DisplayPort 2.1b, and the ARGB lighting works with Aura Sync.

For local AI, 32GB holds 32B models at 4-bit to 6-bit with room for long context, or models up to about 27B at 8-bit. A 70B model at 4-bit needs around 40GB and will not fit entirely on one card. CUDA support is broad, so PyTorch, llama.cpp, Ollama and most other AI tools run on it directly.

What power supply does the TUF RTX 5090 need?

ASUS recommends 1,000W for this model, the same figure NVIDIA gives for the RTX 5090, and ASUS bases it on a fully overclocked CPU and GPU. The card takes one 16-pin connector; a native 16-pin cable from a PCIe 5.0 power supply is the cleanest option, and ASUS includes a 1-to-4 adapter for supplies with 8-pin cables. Push the 16-pin plug in until it is fully seated with no visible gap, and avoid bending the cable sharply right at the connector.

Will the ASUS TUF RTX 5090 fit my case?

It is 348 mm long, 146 mm tall and 72 mm thick (3.6 slots). Check your case's graphics card length limit, the room above the card for the 16-pin cable and the space below the slot before ordering. ASUS includes a graphics card holder to support its weight.

How is the TUF different from the ROG Astral RTX 5090?

Both use the same RTX 5090 GPU with 32GB of GDDR7 and carry a 1,000W power supply recommendation. The TUF is smaller (348 x 146 x 72 mm and 3.6 slots, against 357.6 x 149.3 x 76 mm and 3.8 slots) and uses three fans instead of four. The Astral is clocked a little higher (2,610 MHz in OC mode against 2,580 MHz) and adds Power Detector+ cable monitoring, a thermal map and FanConnect II headers.

Which local AI models fit in 32GB of VRAM?

Roughly, 32B models at 4-bit to 6-bit with plenty of room for context, or models up to about 27B at 8-bit. A 70B model at 4-bit needs around 40GB, so it will not fit entirely; it would have to spill into system memory or be split across two cards.

Can it run CUDA software?

Yes. It supports CUDA, so AI frameworks such as PyTorch, llama.cpp and Ollama, along with CUDA-accelerated rendering and video tools, run on it. NVIDIA's Studio Driver is available for creative applications alongside the Game Ready Driver.
