Overview

The ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT OC is a triple-fan partner card built on AMD's RX 9070 XT: RDNA 4 with 64 compute units, 4,096 stream processors and 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, for up to 640 GB/s. ASUS runs it at up to 3,060 MHz boost out of the box and 3,080 MHz in OC mode, against AMD's 2,970 MHz reference figure. It is aimed at 1440p at high refresh rates and handles 4K with FSR upscaling.

It is a large card: 330 x 140 x 62.5 mm and 3.125 slots thick, with three 8-pin power connectors and an 850W power supply recommendation from ASUS. AMD's reference board power for the RX 9070 XT is 304W; ASUS does not publish a separate figure for this model. Outputs are one HDMI 2.1b and three DisplayPort 2.1a, and the ARGB lighting works with Aura Sync.

For local AI, 16GB holds 8B to 14B models at 4-bit to 8-bit with a decent context, and llama.cpp runs on it through Vulkan, or through ROCm on supported Linux releases. Software that requires CUDA will not run. Against the plain RX 9070, reviews measured the XT about 8% faster at 1440p and 12% faster at 4K.

Questions and answers

Still unsure? Visit the help center or message us.

What power supply does the TUF RX 9070 XT need?

ASUS recommends 850W for this model, which takes three 8-pin connectors. AMD's reference board power for the RX 9070 XT is 304W, and ASUS bases its figure on a fully overclocked system.

Will the ASUS TUF RX 9070 XT fit my case?

It is 330 mm long, 140 mm tall and 62.5 mm thick (3.125 slots). Check your case's graphics card length limit and the space below the slot before ordering.

How is it different from a standard RX 9070 XT?

Same GPU, with a higher factory boost clock (up to 3,080 MHz against AMD's 2,970 MHz reference), a larger triple-fan cooler and ARGB lighting. Expect a small speed gain and lower temperatures rather than a different class of card.

Which local AI models fit in 16GB of VRAM?

Roughly, 8B to 14B models at 4-bit to 8-bit with a decent context window. A 32B model at 4-bit needs around 20GB and will not fit entirely.

Can it run CUDA software?

No, CUDA is NVIDIA-only. Local AI on this card runs through ROCm on supported Linux releases or through Vulkan, so check that your tools support them first.
